I've got a (tag says model 233401) and Ive tried to start it, but, it will only hit a couple of times and not go any further. I think it's missing some of the throttle linkage, nothing is holding the throttle plate open. There is a link to the governor to keep it from over revving. Is there a photo or factory diagram of the linkage for this engine somewhere on line? Thanks in advance for any help. --Walt--

Thanks Kent, I downloaded a pdf file on the engine and got a part #. I found a spare spring that is not the right one but it worked long enough to get the engine started. The throttle shaft is loose and sucking air and needs to be rebuilt

The wire link from the govener lever to the carb is in the wrong hole on the govener lever. It should be in the right most holein the govener lever. The group of holes and the corasponding triangle cut-out are connecting points for one end of the spring. These points are for adjusting the goveners senitivity and rpm. The further away from the shaft that you connect the spring the govener will be more sensitive, it may hunt/be unstable, and the engine will turn more RPM's. The other end of the spring connectd to the lever by the point box that has the rod in it. Once you have the sensitivity of the govener the way you want it, you set final RPM's by adjusting the length of the rod connected to the upper lever. There should be a square threaded nut with two point at the top of the rod. the two point drop into some dimples so the ajustment will not move. The throttle shaft most likely needs replaceing. It will wear more than the carb body. Kent

There should be a spring that hold the throttle open. Take you Model No., Type No., and S/N or Code Number to the nearest B&S dealer. They should be able to show you in the parts book HOW your enginge was equipped.
