I have a B&S 18 HP twin vertical shaft engine that don"t run worth a dam. I have 100 lbs comp. on both cyls. new plugs the coil is real hot, this engine has not been used that much very small amount of air out of the breather hose. I don"t think the carb. on that engine is the best,it has a fixed main jet.The idle speed spec. on that is 1600, i would like to run it slower but it wont run any slower with that carb. Is there a better carb. that would preform better? Anyone have any ideas Thanks Don

The only carb opption you might have is find on from an earlier model with the adjustable jet. I have work on many of these engine that seam to need a richer mixture as they get older. Normal open up the main jet with a set of NUMBERED drills I have. I check the size of the jet with the drills and enlarge two sizes bigger and check how the engine runs.I normally have to go one size futher to make the engine run ok without pulling the choke out some. I have not modified the idle mixture circuit on any of the carbs. I have found you can slower the idle speed and readjust the carb so it will ilde OK.
