IHC LB-handcrank?

Just picked up an engine that does not have the typical flip-out starting handle in the top of the flywheel, instead it has an mount for a hand crank in the center of the flywheel. My question is--Is this mounting optional or standard for the LB's. Also, the flywheel is not drilled for the dowel that would hold a flip-out handle. THANKS for any info.

sounds to me like you have an engine from a hay baler or combine. These engines were designed for dusty working conditions. They were enclosed in a shroud. The crank for them would look similar to a old tractor crank.
