Ignition Points

I recently acquired 3 Delco Light Plants. 1 of them doesn't run very well because the points are badly worn. If I swap the breaker set from another motor it runs fine. I'm sure points will be hard to find. Is there a way to recondition them? I was thinking of usine the ends off a new set of points and soldering them in place of the worn ones. If that doesn't work, I'm out of ideas. Hope someone can help.

Get the number off of the distributor and take it to an honest to goodness parts store (such as NAPA) and they should be able to get you a set. The retail parts houses a lot of time don't like to do this. I has a job in college years ago selling auto parts, and Delco used the same points for a gazillion distributors such as AC tractors, Chevy 6 cyls, etc.

I'm not sure that would work. The distributer is cast into the generator itself. I can remove the points but there is no number identifying them. I was lucky enough to get a couple of emails with some good leads on finding parts. Thanks for your assistance,
