I just purchased this 1 1/2 hp fairbanks morse model z, my very first hit and miss. I have what seems to be a missing part. There is a threaded hole on the cam gear that appears to have had something attached to it. The parts book indicates some kind of a rod that connects on the cam gear and goes toward the spark plug. Could someone tell me if should have this part and what does it do and where does it connect, and if I need one, where can I find one, or make one.

Signed, In need of help.

If its the Headless Fairbanks its were the striker rod that operates the
igniter goes

I have a F-M 1 1/2 HP headless and also a parts schmetic. The rod from the cam gear rests on a post screwed into the block and trips an ignitor. If yours is a sparkplug engine, what serial number and style is it? I'll do some more looking.

I have two of theses engines. One has a sparkplug which was an add-on done by the owner, not factory installed. If you switch to the original ignitor, you will need the rod that goes from the gear to the ignitor, otherwise not. I am returning mine to the original method. Good luck
