Hi,
I have a JD 224T baler w/ a Wisc.VH4D motor that started acting up last haying season. Started ok, ran for awhile, then crapped out and wouldn't restart even after cooling off. With some help, I found a film of oil inside the mag cap. Clean it off and it would start up but still ran like garbage (terrible under a load). I thought that the oil in mag was from bad seal but now believe it to be piston blow-by? Any thoughts? Thinking of rebuild and would like a manual and reliable source for parts and info. Thanks

I found the home page for Wisconsin and Continental engines. Hard to find because they've
been bought out a few times. May not be a lot of help on old engines -- I haven't tried them yet. www.totalpower.com

The site lists dealers worldwide and brags some. GTW

Check with your local aircooled engine store, ie; small engine repairs, lawn mower dealers, rental outlets, whichever is in your area. One of them should be a Wisconsin dealer. Parts and manuals and advice are readily available. Be prepared for sticker shock on parts, they are EXPENSIVE!
You could also try a search for Teledyne Wisconsin on the net (just came to me, duh) and see if they list a dealer in your neck of the woods. Last I knew, just about any part was still available, including decals and paint.

Call JD at 1-800-522-7448 and ask for a tech manual that might help you with the problem. They do not list a manual for the 224T but they might have something that will help you.
