First the LA and LB are identical except the LB has an automatic oiler for the rocker arms where as the LA just has a oil cup on it. With this in mind I'll pass along what I was told about the manuals for these engines and that is to buy both the LA and the LB manuals as the LA has a better section on breakdown and reassembly. For example mag timing. The LB manual has it's own advantages too. Now then where to get these books, I always go to Hit and Miss Enterprises. The phone number is (440)272-5335. They've always treated me right and an added bonus if you have a problem with your engine you can talk to Ed and he'll pretty much get you straight.
