The local auto shop can't grind the seat of my hit&miss engine because it is too big. How do you get around this problem?

Call around, there must be someone who can grind them. All it takes is the right stone. Try places that work on big stuff. May be a heavy duty deisel or farm equipment dealer. Also, sometimes thoses "little old shops that have been around for a 100 years" still have the right stones around.

I was at a shop the other day that had the equipment to grind large valve seats. It is a ecentric type grinder that uses rather small stones to do a big job so to speak. Perhaps if you look for and old implement dealer they would still have that type of equipment .

Where are you located? You need to find an older shop-they are more likely to have stones or cutters for bigger valves. How big are your valves? HTH, Ron.
