I have come across a screwdriver that has two blades at right angles and is stamped "Moffatt Virtue Ltd". It has a centre "donut" shaped handle that is rivetted together. Is this an accessory that came with the engine? What model had these? Are they rare?
I am enquiring for a friend whose Father inlaw has recently passed away and this is amongst his tools.
Thanks
Glenn

The screw driver was used by shearers for adjusting the combs to suit the cutters on a shearing hand piece, these are still used by shears today but are made of plastic and steel, hope this helps. Laurie

I havn't seen a Moffatt Virtue one (havn't been looking). But the screwdriver sounds simlar to the type supplied by alot of manufactures of shearing machines. It would be used on the hand piece for cutter and comb adjustments etc. I'm sure that Moffatt Virture have made their share of shearing machines. Moffatt Virtue being an Australian firm. And there is plenty of sheep down this side of the world!
It was usual for the maker to supply the screwdriver and a small oil-can with a new shearing machine. The oil can would be a small simple one. The type that has a depressed bottom that you push, to get the oil out. The cutter only requiring a few drops at a time.
With your low sheep population it might be a unusal item or at least a talking point.
Any way that just a kiwi's thoughts.
