I know some of you guys have used hit n miss engines to crank ice cream. My question is this. Did you use an existing conventional hand crank machine to make the ice cream or did you build something?
I realize this is overkill but I want to use a tractor's belt pulley or PTO to make ice cream for fairs/festivals/etc.
Where do I get the ice cream maker? Do I build it, buy it or what? Help please.

Lehman's has your ice cream maker. They have a hardware store in Kidron, Ohio, a mail order catalog and a website, WWW.lehmans.com . They don't list the big one in the online catalog but the 1997 mail order catalog has a 5 gallon White Mountain ice cream maker.Even has a picture of a guy running one with a hit-n-miss John Deere.

There are small ads in some of the gardening and hone and garden magazines where there is a store in Ohio that sells alot of household items to the Amish in that area.

They had a 5 galllon White Mountain ice cream maker in their catalog a few years ago. It could be hand crank or belt driven. It sold at that time for about $850.

I will try and find the name of the store--it slips my mine rightr now.

There is a se up at the Central States Threshermans show over Labor Day weekend in Pontiac IL. Two years ago 2 scoops were selling for $1.50. The two ice cream makers were powered by two JD engines.

Keith-we make homemade ice cream from our dairy goats, and it is anything but an easy chore, especially since you have to harden the mixture for 4-6hours after it is made in a freezer, other wise you end up with a rapidly melting soft serve. Not to mention the liability if someone gets salmonella from a corn dog and blames it on your ice cream. However, if you can come up with a pto driven device to shave ice and offer snow cones, I'll bet the novelty will still be there and you would probably have a higher profit margin without the hassles or risk. 8-}

ice cream makers:
At the Granite, Iowa threshing show which is going on this weekend there is a stand that sells home made ice cream out of large ice cream makers run by a belt setup. I think they can use either an electric motor or an engine.
I don't know where they got them or anything but maybe somebody can give some more info.
Here's the show contact person and tel. # - DARRELL HANSON, 712-477-2598 It's going to be in high 90's to a 100 so they may not be able to make it fast enough to keep up!
