We've got an Onan 4.5Kw Propane Generator in the basement of our cabin. The exhaust has been extended out the wall with flex pipe the same diameter. We're getting high levels of CO in the cabin, and are having to leave the door open downstairs, which of course doesn't help our heat situation which is valuable since the cabin is in the middle of the Alaska Range.
Could exhaust backpressure be the problem? The flex Pipe? Both?
We're thinking of replacing the small flex pipe with some 3" to see if that helps...any ideas??

we don't keep the gen outside 'cause it's cold blooded son of a gun!

I NEVER use flex pipe. It leaks. My assumption is that you used flex pipe for 2 reasons. Ease of installation and vibration isolation. This situation sounds very dangerous to say the least. My suggestion would be to invest in some stainless steel exaust pipe (solid) and and band type clamps. Use this to pipe the exaust outside. If you find that the vibration of the engine is too rough on the piping, aftermarket performance manufacturers offer stainless steel flexible pipe connectors that encorporate a SOLID metal bellows inside the assy. that will not leak. Anyway you do this it still sounds like you shouldn't. I am sure you are aware of the outcome if you make a mistake.....
