I have a Wisconsin AEH, bore and stroke 3 x 3.25, and the only other number on the aluminum name plate is 601144. I can't read anything but the stamped numbers on it, so I don't know if thats a serial number or type. On the lower part of the crankcase on the front it says BB-101. It has a Fairbanks-Morse magneto and a Stromburg carburetor. What year is this from and what is it worth? Also, what does the knob on the magneto do? Is it a timing adjustment? Thanks, Jason.

The AEH was made from 1941 - 1949. If that is the serial number, yours was made in late 1945, which fits. Depending on the magneto, the knob on the side is usually a kill switch - screw it in to stop the motor (and conversely, make sure it is not screwed in, or the motor will not start. Guess how I found that out). These are not uncommon engines, & price varies greatly with condition, etc. I paid $5 for one with no mag, carb, or gas tank & rotten sheet metal, but usually restorable complete ones seem to go from $25 - $100, some restored or exceptionally clean original ones go for more.
