I am trying to remove the flywheel from a Wisconsin AHH with no success. I have a 3 arm puller om it which is just about torqued out and have applied wd 40. Anyone know of some "tricks" to get this off? Thanks

While the flywheel is under tension with the puller use two hammers and continually tap the flywheel across any diameter i.e. simultaneously and with a hammer in each hand. The taps do not need to be heavy. Keep at it - you get the impression that it is just annoying the neighbours, but eventually the flywheel will suddenly pop off.

Have used this method for track rod ends for some time and just removed a stubbon Lister flywheel with the same symptoms as yours.

Good luck.

Try what Tom said. Also, if you have an air hammer, put a blunt end chisel or flat end if you have one in it and apply it to the puller bolt.

Works good on ball joints and tie rod ends as well.

Use lots of a good penetrating oil, and place a block of wood over the screw in the middle of the puller. Give it several good taps with a hammer. Don't get carried away, and break your puller. The taps from the hammer will help to break the flywheel free. If it doesn't come loose at first, apply more penetrating oil, and tap on it some more, a day or two later. It may take several days of doing this, but eventually, it will come free.

Here is a little trick that works nicely if your flywheel has the holes. On some fly wheels there are holes to screw the bolt into on each side of the center flywheel hole these bolt holes are used to hook up the hydro trans if this is true on yours you can take a piece of metal and drill two holes where both holes are and put two bolts through it. Before that screw the bolt into the flywheel so that the piece of metal bends slightly when you tighten down on the other two bolts on the other side. After you get it into place take a hammer and tap the center of the flywheel where the center bolt is that is covered by the piece of metal and it should pop right off. Take care and good luck!!

Nobody's mentioned heat, so I will unless you know different.
A heat gun on the hub of the flywheel, and dry ice packed around the shaft might do the trick. Be careful with dry ice, if ya don't know what you're doing.

Also, smack the puller on the end occassionally.

My Dad used to free the things up by placing a big hammer on one side of the hub and then striking it 180 degrees on the other side, but you probably don't want to mark up the hub. Good luck.
