I just got a Maytag Twin cylinder, model #72 with a kick start. She fires ok, but was wondering what kind of fuel does it use? Would like to here it run but don't know anything about it. What horsepower would it be and is it considered a hit and miss engine? Thanks for any help.

Custer~congratulations on your 72! Maytag has always recommended 1 gallon gas 1 pint oil....Mix 16:1 using unleaded gas and 20wt non detergent oil...lawnmower or chainsaw oil is a fine grade oil and has a tendency to weep out and make a mess...high detergent oils like 10-40 will gum it up royally! The governor is a mechanical arm (hitnmiss) inside the flywheel...it works on centrifugal force...this engine is 5/8hp and was built between 1937-1952...If you have the serial no and post it I will give you an exact year...GOOD LUCK!
