The company is still in business in Fairmont MN. They have a new name and I will try to remember what that is. I understand they are helpful with info on old engines

The Fairmont Engine you are describing is a Fairmont Railway Motors one Cylinder ROC or OB type. These were made by Fairmont for use in their railway inspection motor cars or often called track cars or speeders. The engine is a 2 cycle motor with two large flywheels and uses a buzz box coil unit. Fairmont is still in business but they were bought out by Harsco Industries. These motors are no longer produced but some parts are still available. These cars were replaced by the railroads in the 70's infavor of hi-rail vehicles. I used to own 13 of these motor cars with the Fairmont Motor. Fairmont eventually ended up using Onan motors to powered there units.
