How do you tell the year of manufacture of the Clinton Engines?

Greg: According to my Engine replacement chart, the 990 series is a 3 HP engine. Have the illus parts book for the 990-100 if you are interested

Unfortunately there isn't any good way to tell when Clintion engines were made like there is for Briggs. You can get a ball-park estimate from the model since models were discontinued in favor newer ones. Model 700s were made in the mid- to late 40s, Model 800s in the early to mid 50s.

Someone on www.asecc.com may give you a closer estimate for your specific model.

Clinton either didn't keep records or destroyed them when they quit making engines.
