Yes, they were manufacturedbut the Field Force Pump Co. I've got a 3 1/2hp. There's a fella in NY that collects Leaders and has some information. Here's his response to my inquiry about my Leader. There is no existing factory list of manu. dates for this make, they went up in smoke in August, 1939. What I have is a compilation of serial numbers taken from existing engines. By comparing these engine numbers with design changes, a ballpark idea can be obtained. Yours is rated at 3 1/2 hp. They re-rated these engines to 4 hp about 1919-'21. The original 1908 HP was 3, being uprated to 3 1/2 about 1912-'13. Knowing this we can date your engine to this period of time. A good picture or two will help me more. There are other things that were changed and noted in F.F.P. Co. catalogs as improvements from year to year. We might be able to get closer on the date of manu. I am a dedicated Leader collector and have spent several years researching this company and it's products. I currently have 17 Leaders, no two alike. I also have two examples of the "Tayoga" engine they built. I own the earliest known Leader. I own the only throttling Leader known to exist. I have the most complete, extensive collection of these engines in the USA. I know Leaders inside out , up and down, over and back. I hope this helps you, Send me a pic or two if you can, I'll see what I can come up with for you. Brian M. Lynch Wellsville, NY
