I have an Onan charging set with 2 d.c. outputs. 36 volts and 30 volts, 39 amps and 33 amps. The dynamo is motored to start the engine. The engine is gasoline single cylinder air cooled. The control box has a start button, ammeter and kill switch. There are 2 plates on the air cowling. the upper plate states:- CHARGING SET, 1260 WATTS, No2. and gives all the info on servicing the engine. the second plate states:- ONAN ELECTRIC PLANT.

MODEL 123L-5 SER 123.147899

GEN No 142272

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHEN IT DATES FROM, WHAT SIZE THE ENGINE IS AND WHAT IT WAS USED FOR AND WHERE I CAN OBTAIN A MANUAL (IF THERE IS SUCH A THING).

many thanks

Simon I have a couple of places you need to vist but frist being that you have a military unit info is hard to come buy. Since you have the model # contact onan but what ever you do don't tell them it is a military unit because they will not even try to help you just give them the model number and go from there. You should also go to www.enginads.com and click on the link for sparkarcs its a site devoted to old generators and battery chargers. They will love to see you post there and some one should be able to help you. Two other places you can go are at yhaoo groups and they are called onansmallengines and kohlerandonanengineclub. I hope this helps you and good luck in getting the info you want or need.

Thanks for the info joseph. I'll try these sites and let you know how i get on. The exhaust valve seat only needed recut to get it running properly. it is a very quiet smooth running set. Once again many thanks for taking the time to reply.
