I have a International LA which is ready for paint. It looks like it was originally grey with red flywheel and pulley. The rocker arms are also red and the fuel tank as well.Does anyone know the number or colour of the grey?
On another point the rockers and shaft were worn on this engine. We repaired the mechanism by reaming the rocker arms out th 20mm and machining a shaft to suit.the shaft was made from hi tensile bar and hardened by oil quenching.

According to the IHC archives at the Wisconsin Historical Society, the only parts that should be red on the gray engines(pre '37 change to red), would be the flywheel and pulley. The tank and rocker arms could have been painted by the owner.

The dark gray is IH#110 and crosses to PPG#30010. Red is IH#50 and is PPG #70019.

Have seen LA engines gray w/red flywheel, inspection hole cover, and oil fill plug. Most are automaticly repainted IHC red just because.IHC painted earlier ones gray then switched to red.Same as with thier tractors, was a marketing scheme-make them more visible. Not sure of exact year this happened.A dedicated IHC fan could tell you.I have 2 earlier gray engines,S.N.s are only 6 digits apart!Lots of engine guys turn up thier noses at these engines.I like em.
