What kind of engine did I buy?

I bought an old engine from a fella yesterday and I have no clue as to who made it. It is an upright cylinder, air cooled, horizontal crankshaft engine. The iron cylinder has thin aluminum cooling fins (like radiator fins) that flow air down the length of the cyl. Thick iron flywheel, fan in the center (like a narrow squirrel cage fan) and it looks like it is supposed to draw air, instead of a blowing fan. It has exposed rocker arms and push rods, but I believe that it is missing the fan shroud. That is probably where the ID plate was. There is a number that is cast into the block (5-22). I guess that it could be a date code? I can email a picture to someone if they would like to take a look. Thanks in advance! Bryan in KS
