I have a Panther A400 2.5 hp 2 cycle engine....I need to know the oil to gas ratio and what spark plug to use that won't damage it.
I'm also looking for a manual for this engine.
Thanks

I Just purchase A old go-kart with a Clinton A400 2.5HP motor. The gas to oil ratio on thr engine states to use 1 pint SAE30 mobil oil to 1 gal mobil gas. and yes it sayse "Mobil" on the tag. Kind of funny. I have a problem with spark. Checked the gap on the "points" and was fine . Any thoughts?

I have a Clinton engine but I don't know what year it is. The model #K5504106A, Serial#125076, Type # XTV52350A. I also need to know the oil gas ratio for this engine. Please send me all the info that anyone has on this engine . I would be very thankful for the help. Thanks, Billy Potter

It might be a little late for this, but I just now saw this discussion. A Champion Spark Plug catalog I have from the 1971 year says that all the Clinton two-stroke engines should have their J-12J spark plug. That spark plug had the outside electrode set back a bit from the center electrode. This was supposed to keep the spark plug from fouling. The J-12J spark plug has been replaced by the UJ-12C. On today's fuel/oil mixes, that spark plug should serve fine. The catalog says that the gap should be set at .030".

Hi Lisa,Depending on how worn the engne is,I would first try 40:1,that should work good for it.If it smokes I would do 50:1,and if it squeels or sounds like its running dry,do 32:1.

The oil available these days is much more technilogically advanced to the oil they used in the 50's and 60's when that engine was made.

I would get a Champion CJ-8 spark plug and see it how performs. They have spark plugs at lawnmower shops that are supposed to be universal for lawnmower engines,I wouldn't get one of those because they are of poor quality and usually are made in China junk plugs.

Just out of curiosity, wht does your engine power?

Hope this helps you out...schramm...
