Back in August, while traveling in Vermont, I came across a "walking beam engine". It seemed to be made of contemporary parts. The piston reciprocated inside an open cylinder. The carburetor looked like your basic, eveyday small engine type. The intake valve was operated by the vacuum that the cylinder created. Only the exhaust valve had mechanical linkage. All parts seemed to be of recent manufacture. This particular little power plant was on display and running at the time I saw it. It seemed to chug along at about 300 rpm and was turning 1 big 15 inch flywheel. Anyone got any info on these things?

I'm looking for info on any gas engine with walking beam valve actuation. I've heard they were common(?) late in the 1800's. Any help would help. Thanks
