I have a 6hp M that refuses to start. I've checked the mag and it is hot. It will fire if I put a little gas in the intake. I checked the needle valve and pickup tube and the are both okay. I put new rings in but the intake valve seems to not open. I've tried loosing the intake nut and tightening it. The timing is where it should be. I'm about ready to dig a hole. Any ideas?

Seems to me that you answered your own question. The intake valve has to open, for the engine to get any fuel. If it isn't opening, the engine will never run.

Do you have a manual for it? Hit and Miss enterprises has them and they are not expensive at all...reprints but it should cover what you're needing, and if you do dig a hole, can you put it in my back yard???

I finally found at least part of the problem. The 6hp engines used water in the carburator to help keep the engine from knocking. I drained the water out of the hopper and found that water was leaking into the head between the carburator. Once this was fixed, it would run but it still needs more work. Thanks for all the help,

Dan
