I am new to stationry engines and so I am want ing some good soures of information. I am curious of not only values but what a person needs to look for when buying one from an sale. I am looking for just about anything to help me get started. Building new parts is no big deal because i am a machinest. So knowing what to look for and different books to review would really help me a lot. Thank You

Harry's old Engine site is a good place to start, many, many knowlegable folks over there. They sure started me off in the right direction. Harry lists a bunch of books on the subject, and the classifieds will give you an idea of worth. I'd say a complete running engine is a good place to start, but if you're a machinist you'll find they were quite easy to work with and simple to operate. I've got a Nelson Brothers Sattley and the major components are Model T parts. The missing mag can be a negative as replacements are getting real spendy. Cracked or broken mixers are hard to replace too. Even the old Lunkenheimer Paragon oilers are going for $100+ anymore. The nice things about farm sales is you can see what you're getting into. E-Bay has quite a few listed but you can't touch 'em or see what kind of shape they are REALLY in. There are places like "Hit and Miss" or Starbold that have alot of replacement parts...
