I have just purchased a 2hp F/M Self Oiler engine. The engine is loose but there is something stopping the engine and preventing it from fully rotating. Can somebody tell me how to get inside this engine. It appears to be a one piece cast housing. I have removed the mag and cover plate but this offers little access to the inner workings of the engine.

Hello. There should be two bolts at the back on the engine. One on either side. These are fairly long bolts. That is what holds the top part of the engine to the bottom. Remove these bolts and then you can 'split' the engine castings. This will give you access to the inner workings of the engine. Hope that this helps.

Thank you for the help. The back panel came off very easily. The problem turned out to be a seized exhaust valve. It appears that the engine was left in an area that allowed some water into the exhaust pipe. This has rusted the valve stem and it is very stuck. If you have an idea on the best way to remove the valve from this particular engine it would be helpful. Thanks again.
