Homelite generator that won't

I just picked up a Homelite generator. used. It has an 11 hp Briggs on it and it runs great, cranks the first or second pull every time. But the generator is not putting out. Obviously the reason for the cheap price. It is less than 2 years old. What should I be checking to see what is wrong? The generator is rated at 5500 watts. Worst case, I can just use the engine on something else, but having a working generator in the winter would be nice.
Thanks

Some of those generators have brushes that need to be replaced occasionally. Usually they can be accessed quite easily from the end of the generator opposite the engine.

Good Luck!

Fields may need rexciting, try a local electric motor shop.

Post on sparkarcs. It's dedicated to antique plants but I'm sure someone will help.
