Rotax problem?

Hi everyone

I have a 1979 Moto Ski Mirage Special snowmobile with a two stroke 368cc Rotax engine. When it warms up it starts popping and smoking. It looses alot of its power going up hills and around turns. When the engine is cold it has a ton of power, it always starts good. When the temp is below 20 degrees its fine but on warm days like 30 it looses power. I don't think its overheating the fan works fine. We put new coils, wires in it and cleaned the carbs about 2 years ago. Any ideas?

I do alot of work of my own on ski-doo's and trikes, from what i can understand you have either got a coil breaking down or a condenser.

JDM Guy: I had an 81 Mirage II with the 368--snappy little sled! This sled is the same as the Ski-Doo Citation, which might mean other people who had the Ski-Doo can help as well. One thing to note is that most sleds run better the colder it gets--colder air will allow a denser charge of air, producing more power (at least that's the 2-second explanation). If you change jets, you may be running too lean once temperatures go back down.

Sounds to me like it's jetted wrong. Go to your SkiDoo dealer, they used the same engines, actually, it's the same snowmobile. Robert

Thank you,

I can get them from manufacturer's supply. We thought it could be jetting.

After thinking about it, it could be leaky crank seals or an air leak from carb to engine too. All these things will make it "seem" like it's in the jetting. Robert

I can check those out to. It is a original engine and we took off the carbs once so it could be a leak. I rode it yesterday and it seemed to run good.
