I was given a type VF4-1 no 351710 size 3 1/4 X 3 1/4 crank start engine. Could anybody tell me what year, HP, etc. this is? How about rebuild kits? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Doug

Hello Doug, Your best bet is to call the factory at 800-922-5632 ext #6. Ask for Hike. He is very good at "ID"ing engines and can easily answer a lot of your questions. You will need to give him the serial number or if that is missing the casting number on the block. Also go on Ebay and enter Wisconsin Engine. There is a lot of the older service, parts manuals for your engine for sale. They are much better then the newer manuals with a lot more details. Also they are usually cheaper. The engines are really easy to rebuild. Lots of parts are available, both from factory and on Ebay. Any other question please email me or post on this site
Hope this helps. Joe

I think the VF4 put out 25 horsepower and was built from the 40's into the 70's. Also, I was told that they went to electric start in 1950, so a crank start engine would be 19-forty something. I recently rebuilt a crank start VE4 and was able to get a gasket kit from NAPA and a piston ring set from our local Wisconsin dealer.

Hope this helps,

Scott
