I have managed to get the little thing running. I am now looking to make a display for it and was wondering what a motor of this size would have been used for in it's day. Any help would be appreciated.

My dad says these engines were used for several lighter tasks around the farm. The most popular were running milking machines and water pumps. They could also be set up to run small mills or something like a homemade table saw. At shows around here, the most popular setup seems to be water pumps that re-circulate the same water (sometimes hiding the bottom of the loop). I also saw an engine set up to pump water using a hand pump that had been fitted with a pump jack – looked pretty antique to me.

Just came from a antique power show in Brinkley Ar. where they (type Z style D) were used as starting motors for the big 25 hp engines (ac and dc electric motors were used also). Lots of engines, steam, oil engines, Hart Parr, International, bessemer 80 hp. lots of nice tractors too. Saw a nice scaled down Townsend tractor using what looked like a 1 1/2 FM ZC engine and a shaw garden tractor trans axel.
