hi to all. i'm starting to tackle my first small engine. it's a IH LA s/n LAA38554. from research i believe it to be a 1937 year. it has a spark plug(2 com) and i believe it to have a hi-tension battery-less magneto, is this correct and does anyone know what type/brand it is? the magneto cover has the IH logo on it and "H1100039" stamped on the side. i want to order one or more manuals for this engine from here but i'm not sure which will apply. these are my choices:

IHC 1-1/2,3,6 W/LO TENS MAG-SERVICE
IHC 1-1/2,3,6 W WICO MAG-SERVICE
IHC 1-1/2,3,6,10,HP-PARTS
IHC LA,M,L PARTS
IHC LA W/WICO TYPE H MAGNETO '35-PARTS
IHC LA W/WICO TYPE AH MAGNETO '37-OPERATORS

ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED-GORDY

The LA's for your year could have used the IHC or Wico mag. The LA manual in the web site below uses the Wico mag, but essential anyway for your engine.

My 1936 LA has a Wico Type H magneto on it, and I have a pretty good manual, titled Instructions for Care and Operation of McCormick-Deering 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 H.P. and 3 to 5 H.P> Gasoline Engines [Type LA] This manual is put out by King's Books PO Box 86 Radnor, Ohio 43066 hope this helps.

The IH labeled mag was there own make. Some of these engines were sold with the Wico mag but yours is not one of them. Both mags were very good. Hit & Miss Enterprises offers a manual for the LA with instructions & parts illustrations. # L29. Check them out at www.orwell.net/~hitnmiss
