Ok,

I brought home an engine. It's old, it's red and the flywheels are are approximately 30 inch diameter. Heavy to say the least. It has a removable crank handle and looks a lot like most of the hit and miss engines I've seen except.....there is no spark plug, no magneto, and no evidence that there ever was one!

Is this thing a diesel? I don't get it and I don't know enough about them to even make an educated guess. I admit that I haven't had time to study this thing for more than 10 minutes or so, but I do know that there is no spark plug. The price was right so I dragged it home.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Deutz did make an engine like that. Its red and a diesel with 2 flywheels. But you could have an igniter engine that ran off of a battery and coil(resiter coil). These engines have the points inside the engine and they make the spark when they seperate.look for a device with moveable parts sort of where a sparkplug would be.Best place for info is harry mathews site.
