I just picked up a freebie for the effort of lugging it off.

I've done a little preliminary looking, and it's loose, valves move, distributor turns, starter motor works.

Looking from the fan end, the front two cylinders have 80# of compression, the left rear has 60, and the right rear has 30. It originally had zero, but started coming up as I spun the engine. I'm thinking stuck valve.

I squirted a little PB Blaster down that plug hole and I'll see if it comes up any more.

I understand this is a fairly common engine. What is parts availability like? Is there is serial number list I can use to determine about how old it is? Any tricks or tips or common problems I should look for?

If I can get the compression in the Right Rear up a bit more, I may clean the carb, set the points and see if it'll light off. If I can't, I've got to decide whether to put some money into it or part it out.

Any experiences/leads/resources/comments appreciated.

Got it apart far enough to decide it's not worth fixing. Less than 25# compression in the back cylinders even after a little oil down the cylinders, and the intake/exhaust manifold is broken in three places.

I'll be parting it out, watch the classifieds...
