Hello, I had wrote earlier and asked about the John Deere model W engine. Well the guy that has it also has a IHC 6HP kerosene engine. Serial number 33355. Can anyone tell me more info on them??? I cant find alot about them on the internet. Are they a hit and miss or just a motor??? The ones I have found pics of on the internet have one glass oiler, the one this guy has, have two tin looking funnel cups for oilers??? Any info would be helpfull. It doesnt run, but isnt stuck. Price? worth? use? how many were made? when were they made? color skeams? Thanks

I was at an auction two days ago where there was a lot of gas engines, in MN. There was a 6 HP M engine that was not stuck, and looked to be complete, with the magneto, although it wasn't running. I think it sold for about $600. There was also two 1 1/2HP M's and a 3HP M, and those sold for about $325 each in the same condition. I think the 6 HP engines usually go for around $1000 when running and painted. 1 1/2 M's usually around $500-$600 running & painted. Seems like the 6 HP goes for about twice the price of the smaller engines. Prices will be higher if the engines are mounted on steel wheel carts. Check to see if there is a magneto on the engine, as that could cost a few hundred to buy another. There should be a glass oiler on the top of the water tank, but you can buy a new one for under $50. There should be a sheet metal grease cup behind each flywheel. The "M" engines were painted Adirondack green (dark green,) which can be matched by most auto. paint suppliers. New and used parts are readily available for the M engines. There are lists available to reference the serial# to the year. Most were probably made in the 20's and 30's.
