I have an LA engine that I am trying to get running. The carb casting was broke where the fuel line goes in so I got another carb and installed it. I cleaned and sealed the gas tank. When I cranked the motor and held the plug wire end it will shock you good. But the fire wouldn't go through the plug so I replaced the plug new. Still won't fire thru plug. Tested the plug on another motor its good. I can't figure it. Can the mag be hot enough to shock you and not hot enough to jump the gap? Experience? Ideas? Thanks Nick.

It's possible. Are you sure you have a good connection to the plug? One thing you might want to try is closing the gap on the plug. Eventhough you may get a spark, it's not saying it will be enough to run the engine. Check to make sure your points are gapped correctly, .15 I believe. Another thing you can do is replace the points and condensor and/or have the magnets recharged. Weak magnets will cause this problem.

I have been having the same problem. The plug gap should be .020. It may help if you close it up some more. I have tried to re-magnatize my magnets by putting them on a magnetic chuck. So far that has not helped. I have uset the proper condender from an antique engine dealer and and that did not do any better than the 1957 Chevy conderser I used. I sure wish you could find your problem and maybe I could find mine. I have my magneto off right now waiting on an inpulse spring. Mine will fire just by rotating it over slowly by hand. I don't know what resistance you should be able to read across the coil. Maybe someone will post that here and help us both. Mosto of the old engines I have dealt with the 57 Chevy condenser works just fine. I have an LB that I had to clean the outside of the conderser and conderser mounting bracket for it to work. I guess it was corroded to the point it was not properly grounding if it has too? I like these little engines but the one I am having problems with sure has been a pain in the a??. One thing I did was hook a 12 volt auto coil to the screw that sticks out of the points cover and is used to ground the motor and kill it. With the battery and coil connected it started right up. Same points, conderser just different coil and method of generating electricity. Good luck I hope you get some good help on your post. I asked one time for some and was told to get a manual. I already had one and there is not a lot to them.
