I am converting my Lincoln SA 200 welder to an alternator charging system using an older model Ford alternator and regulator. The system also has an ammeter. I have also installed a key controlled ignition switch made for magnetos. I have wired the Bat terminal on the alt to one side of the ammeter and the other side of the ammeter to the bat side of the starter relay. I have wired from the "A" term on the VR to the bat side of the starter relay and from the "S" term of the VR thru the switch to the bat side of the starter relay. Have I missed something?

The simplest wiring for your alternator is the Battery terminal of the alternator gets attached to the battery(+) easily enough as you have indicated.

With a shunt type ammeter, you can attach the "S" terminal of the regulator to the ignition switch-if the ammeter feeds current to the terminal that you attach the "S" lead to when in the "run" position.

"I" on the regulator is not connected to anything.

"A" Attaches to the batery (+)

"F" Attaches to the field terminal on the alternator.

There is no connection to the "Stator" winding of the alternator.
