Hello, I am interested in buying a Hit and Miss engine to run an ice cream maker. I know next to nothing about these engines, except that they are real neat to watch run. I would like to know what make and model Hit and Miss engines are the easiest to get replacement parts for if I should need them. Thanks very much.

The John Deere 1 1/2 hp engine seems to be the most popular for ice cream mixers. I've also seen a New Holland hooked to one. Parts are pretty much readily available for both these engines. Some others to think about are Fuller&Johnson, Witte, Stover (CT model], Hercules, Economy, just to name a few. If you're looking for something relatively inexpensive there is always Fairbanks&Morse engines though most of them are throttle govern. These engines are as common as dirt.

Thanks Bill for your response. I will look into these engines. Common engines and ready parts availability are what I'm looking for. Carl

I HAVE A 6HP STOVER MOD.X,IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN A GOOD RUNNER AND EASY STARTER.
ONE DAY IT JUST QUIT, NEVER TO FIRE AGAIN. IVE CHECKED THE BATT. AND COIL AND THE IGNITER SPARKS WELL AS I HOLD IT BUT OF COURSE I CANT TELL WHAT ITS DOING INSIDE THE ENGINE.
IF I CRANK IT ENOUGH GAS WILL RUN OUT OF THE MIXERSO THAT CANT BE THE PROBLEM.IVE ALSO CHECKED THE TIMING.
I KEEP COMING BACK TO THE IGNITER BUT LIKE I SAID , IT SEEMS O.K.
ANY SUGISTIONS WILL BE APRECIATED. THANKS JIM
