I am trying to get a Homelite 2 cycle weed eater to run properly. Originally, it would only run briefly (30 seconds or less)with the choke 1/2 on but wouldn't develop full RPM. I put a carb kit in an now it runs full RPM without the choke on but will only run for a minute or so then quits. It will usually restart after a couple of pulls and then does the same thing. Anyone have any ideas what I need to look for to fix this.

Hi I think the problem with it runing is the two screws on the front of it the won to the right is for the air flow in the carb. the won on the right is for the trotle start it then turn the right screw until it is streight up i mean the slot in the screw. ounce it is running right press the trotle fast and let it go if you here it sound like it it going to cut out turn the left screw to the left a little bit then press again. the problem your having is the setings of thoes screws. please let me know how your repair goes.

Just threw a Homelite in the hoppa, the needle bearings on the con rod were bad and scored the cylinder. I'll bet yours are gone too.

Check to see if the fuel supply line is staying filled while it is running. If it stays full, the problem may be in the ignition. If it draws air, there may be an air leak in the carb, there may be a poor seal in the gaskets between the carb and adapter plate, or plate and crankcase. It may be the fuel hose is routed in such a way that the fuel pickup in the tank is jammed into a corner of the tank that sees fuel when it held for starting, but does not have fuel when held in running position.

Try removing the crankcase end cover and take a peek inside. On some engines they are plastic and you can guess what happens after a while. I guess that's why you can buy a Homelite for $59

John,
My nephew is a heavy duty mechanic and he put in the carb kit. He said there were signs that there was air sucking in were it shouldn’t have. At that time we also replaced the gasket between the carb and the heat dam but the parts supplier didn’t have the gasket that goes between the engine and the heat dam. I have ordered that gasket now.

Other things I checked.
The filler cap was brand new so the vent should be ok. The fuel hose doesn’t appear to be stuck in a corner or anything like that. There are some air bubbles in both the fuel line and the fuel return line. The primer bowl has fuel in it but it doesn’t appear to fill up completely.

CHECK TO MAKE SURE BOTH FUEL LINES ARE COMPLETELY CONNECTED ON THE PRIMER BULB. THIS MAYBE WHERE IT SUCKING SOME AIR AND LOSING PRIME.
