I have a small bob cat @65 mod with a THD motor on it. It will run a short time then shut down. I have changed the dist. cond. wires and plugs The points look good and if i just ground them and put the cap and rotor back on it will start again ,... for a while ,... again and again. I have taken the points out several times and to no avatil, nothing works for more than a few minutes. I have a good fuel pump . i do loose spark when it stops running till i ground out the points , again. my wife keeps yelling at me, help

I have the same setup, and found that the points seem to bind on the monting post in the distyributor when the unit gets hot. It appears the fiber gromet on the points expands with heat and binds. The only fix I've found so far is to drill out the fiber gromnet on the points to a larger size.

Check that you do not have a missing ground wire for the point plate in the distributor. Also you may have an intermittently bad coil.
