My 2 cyl engine is not running right ,it is hard to start and when it starts runs rough at idle and when you eccelerate it needs some choke and it runs really bad, checked timing checked valves and they are set right and they are not sticking changed carb with a engine that is running good put a electric fuel pump on it changed plugs and points got good compression replace manifold gaskets only thing that I can think of is in the magneto, does it have weights in it that changes the timing that the points fire at higher speeds? Any help would be appreciated.

There are not any advance weights in a magneto. The advance is part of the impluse system. The way I time the THD I have on a welder is to retard the mag on it's sloted mounting holes. Then turn the engine to slightly past top dead center. Then advance the mag until the impluse snaps and tighten the mag. You might check that the gear on the mg is in time with the gear train on the front of the engine. Also seal the cap on the mag with clear acrylic spray paint.
