Hi There,

I have a generator with a Herculess IXA5 engine.

The problem is I lost the timing when I rebuilt my water pump.

How Can I set the Timing?

I can find the DC mark on the flywheel but how do I set the distributor?

Distributor is a Fair Banks Morse model FM XE4A14B

Please Help me

Randy

If you just removed the mag and did not change the timeing gears. Then the lugs on the mag only need to be timed to correct place to instal. With the engine on dc mark and the number one cylinder on compression stroke.Remove the mag cap so you can see the roter.rotate the mag untill the roter points to the number one cylinder. You may need to trip the impulse then rotate back so you can instal with no tension on the shaft.

Dear Larry,

Thanks for your reply.

I am not sure what I did.

When I reinstalled the water pump I think I changed the gears since I rotate the engine a bit to in stall the Mag. I am not sure how the timing gear is changed. How Can I be sure about that?

If the gear is no problem How do I find the compression stroke of cilinder one?

I found the DC mark on the flywheel I I set the DC mark does that mean I have the compression stroke.

Thank you

Randy

The DC mark comes around twice for each time number one cylinder fires.Remove the sparkplug and put finger over the hole then crank engine by hand when you can feel compression on your finger then its on compression stroke.Continue to the DC mark and stop this is where the mag must be installed. You then turn mag backwards untill the roter is pointing at the number one plug wire and the lugs on the mag will match the ones in the moter.
