The engine you have is a Military Standard Engine. This engine was designed by the Army Corp of Engineers. The one you have happened to be built by Hupp as they were the low bidder on the contract under which it was built. I have seen Continental, Wisconson, and other manufactures. I even saw one which had Continental name on it with Wisconson as a sub-contractor. The service manuel you need is an ARMY TM 9-2805-259-14, AIR FORCE TO 38G2-89-54, NAVY NAVFAC P-8-615-14E. The firing order is 1-4-3-2 with number one the cylinder the oil filter. This manuel I have DOES NOT show how the cylinders are numdered, but with the flywheel considered the rear of the engine and the rope start pulley/alternator considered the front the clinder by the oil filter is the front most cylinder. I think cylinder numbers one and three will be on the same side and two and four will be on the other. Plug gap .028 to .033 inches, Magneto contacts .016 to .020 inches, Valve tappet clearance cold .007 to .009 both intake and exhaust, timing align marks on flywhell with the mark on the window.
