Do Wisconsin V440 motors have problems?

It seems like Wisconsin stopped the production of the V440 motor. I have heard from my local small engine shop that these engines are notorious for blowing head gaskets and most of these engines do not last that long (somewhere between 600-800 hrs). I saw maybe seven of these motors lying in the shop. He told me that the number 3 cylinder does not get enough oil to cylinders and gets hot and blows.

Is this really true? If this is true, is their something Wisconsin is doing to prevent this from happening (maybe a recall)? Is their anything I could do to prevent this motor from a early retirement? I am thinking maybe of changing to synthetic oil rather than conventional. Any suggestions.
