I am new at this and i am having trouble trying to isolate and fix an engine knock. The anderson is a vertical single cyl petrol.
The knock only occurs at the start of the compression stroke. I have checked the bearings and they are tight. The piston moves freely in the bore when moved by hand. It will not knock with the spark plug out so the pressure has something to do with it. I have run out of ideas.

Have you checked the clearance between the piston skirt and the bore, and the wrist pin bushing?

If the piston skit has excess clearance, and the piston "rocks" in the bore, you'll get a knock under compressiom.
