I am in the process of getting an old 2 cyl diesel that has what looks like "Aetter" stamped in the top of the valve covers. It powers a huge looking generator that is belt drive. The A (I think)is very ornate and the room was dark so it was hard to tell exactly if that was what it said. It is a 2 cyl inline and supposedly built in the 50's according to the guy I am getting it from. It runs but may need seals. A very interesting chunk of iron. Any help whatsoever is appreciated.

Also, go to Google.com and type in Petter Diesel. I got 14,800 "hits"!

Thanks. I found that out about 1/2 an hour after I posted the message when I called Engine Machine shop in Fredericton, they set me straight immediately. Anyone who has or knows of info on the Petter can still let me know anyway. Now that I know what it is it shouldn't be too difficult to find info and parts. Thanks again.

I would think it says PETTER which was a well known maker of small diesels.I belive they merged with another company,it may have been Lister. There is a website that lists models and info.
