I have a 16hp Kohler generator system that sat idle for many years. I took great care to clean
mud daubers out of entire system.
Today was ready to start it, but the mag is not
putting out. I have no knowledge of trouble shooting mags. Any tips appreciated.

Most of the time you can just remove the cover on the points, give the points a good filing and that takes care of it. Sometimes the condensor needs to be replaced or maybe points, condensor, and coil(s). And after doing all that and it still doesn't spark, you may need to get the magnets recharged. It's a trial and error thing when it comes to mags. What mag is on it?

This is a WIco Mag.
Sure hope I can squeeze the cover off with
the tiny space between the cap and the intake
manifold. I will file points as you suggest.
Thanks. There is some kind of tiny inspection hole covered and put on with tiny screws that
is not on any of the other wico mags on my
John Deeres and farmalls. wonder what that gets me into. Thanks again

Be glad it's a Wico. Wico parts are cheaper then Fairbanks parts. I had a Wisconsin AKN with a Fairbanks mag that needed a coil. Cost me damn near $100 for it. You can get Wico coils for alot cheaper. If you need parts, let me know and I'll direct you to a very good and helpful supplier.
