I have a B$S model 135212 engine used on a go-cart. The engine refuses to continue to run unless you constantly pump the fuel bulb. I would assume that the carb needs to be cleaned. I have used a spray cleaner that did not help problem.
My question is how to removed the carb. This particular model has the carb integrated with the gas tank (the carb is on top of gas tank).

Assuming the tank is clean, look on the side of the carb the pto side of the engine and see if there is a plate with either 4 or 5 screws on it.

Under that plate is a diaphram and it is likely stiff or torn.

There is a small possibility that the long tube fell off (use a small light or mirror to get light into the tank to see if any fuel tubes fell off.). If the tube looks to be fine, replace the diaphram, which can be done without removing gas tank.

Thanks John,
I did find a flat aluminum cover plate on the side of the intake manafold. After removing the four screws that held the plate, I dicovered a thin rubber gasket and behide that gasket was a large (1" diameter) spring/retainer.
I would guess that this is the gasket that you were referring to. It does seem to need replacing. I noticed a sponge type of filter in the gas tank when I went to look for the tube. Can this be removed by simply pulling it out so I can be a better look?
One last question: Where can I go to get a carb kit for this model?

I have a go kart and I am experiencing the same problem. I replaced the diaphram and have inspected and cleaned the fuel tank suction tube. And still the only way to keep the engine running is to keep squirting gas into the intake. Any suggestions?

I had the same problem. I have a pulsa jet carb that was the source of the problem. I replaced the diaphragm but still had the same result. I finally traced the problem to the shorter of the two fuel uptake stacks. It has a pin hole in the bottom of the uptake that was clogged. When I cleaned it with a wire, it took off. Try this link if you need a description of what to look for: http://www.compgoparts.com/technical/001/BriggsCarburetor.asp

Good luck

Hey has anyone figured out what the problem is with these Briggs,I have the same I"ve cleaned the carb, new diaphram etc. The only way it trys to run is with your hand covering the carb choking it. The local shop tells me to replace the carb and the tank. I would like to find the solution rather than replace everything under the sun. Any help would be great.

Thanks,Danny
