I found a 1918 Witte 8hp engine on the original trailer and with the saw rig on the back. All the parts are there and its in good running condition. Would it be worth $1000?

Don't hesitate at that price. Should make a great show item.

Doesn't sound like a bad deal to me. Is it a headless?

If the serial number is in the 1918 range it is definitely a "Headless" model as Witte did not start selling the "B" model until 1923. Also, generally 8 HP models were always "Headless" as most of the "B" models were rated at 7 HP and 10 HP.

As for the price, it is definitely worth $1000 if it is a "Headless" or a "B" model Saw rig especially if it is running and ready to use/show.

I sold a 7 HP 1923 Witte "B" model 6 months ago on a saw rig cart without the saw for $1800 but it was a show engine nicely restored.

For identification purposes, I have posted a picture of the 8 HP Headless Witte that I sold a couple years ago out of my collection.

Go get that deal!!!!
