Have a Briggs (3hp) on my push type mower. Last year it started to loose power and finally quit. Put it in the barn for the winter, and a few weeks ago took it out for repairs.
It is a B&S 92502-0914-01 engine with a pulsa-jet type carburator on the minlon (plastic??) body. Fixed the first problem with another electronic coil. The engine will start and run in idle but will flood out as the trottle is advanced. I replaced the diaphragm and preloaded it as instructed. All the passages are clear and the screens are clean. I can start the engine and run it in idle, and the choke plate will remain open. As I advance the the trottle the choke plate starts to close. I try to hole it open with a stick but it still runs rough and rich. Closing the needle valve has no effect. Appears to have good compression. I disconnected the breather tube thinking blow-by was affecting the diaphragm. No change. An auto mechanic at the campus shop suggested the flywheel key might be stripped. Checkec the key and it is OK. Have the parts sheet and see no missing parts. This one has me stumpped.

If it is flooding when you are trying to run it with the air filter off, such as a test run to see if it is fixed, etc. I have seen a lot of this model engines that when you try to run them with the air filter off, they will flood, try putting the air filter hold down screw in place and then run it. Kinda think they draw extra fuel through the air cleaner bolt hole in the carburetor base. GD

One thought... The Magnetron coil probably can be installed two ways, one of which will make the timing very late. On your unit, can you flip the coil, so the side now facing the engine cylinder will instead face away from the cylinder?

Please post back after checking this out.
