Does diesel fuel get old and not start well?
Any starting fluid that wont damage the engine?
Seems to run good once its started. Ford 254DF 4 cylinder diesel.
Thanks, Dennis....

Old diesel does lose the higher aromatics of the fuel and will make starting less positive, but having said that, a diesel in good condition should start readily if the usual starting aids are used.

Don't use starting spray, it is a sure-fire way of damaging piston rings through sharp detonation in the cylinder.

If you have the older in-line pump (Simms) there is a cold-start button which you push in with the throttle held open, this allows the pump rack to go further and put more fuel out. Once the engine is running the rack limit is returned to its normal position.

If you have a rotary pump then you'll probably have an electric heater type starter aid.
