I have a Coleman generator without a low oil switch. I notice some of the generators with the extended run tank have a low oil switch. The switch is supposed to shut the engine off if the oil gets low. Has anyone ever retro fitted one of the switches to an engine that does not have one? The engine in question here is a Briggs and Stratton. Also if you have done it could you also include how you did it and the wiring instructions.

Thanks..
Bill

Depends if your block is machined for the low oil switch. Most are mounted in a machined hole in the block. You may have a cover you can remove to inseall the low oil switch but you may just have a boss case in the block where the machining would have taken place. You will have to look. If there is not a machined hole you would need to replace the block. Might be better to replace the genset with a newer one equiped with the low oil switch.
